Ultrafast Laser Laboratory
What's New

The books required for the upcoming freshman seminar
(PHYS150) The Quantum World
(8/5/08).

In collaboration with Prof. John McKnight and
Colonial Williamsburg Curator Erik Goldstein, we
are testing a solar filter from the 1760s (4/29/08).

Ionization yield curves from Jay Paquette's
classical strong-field ionization simulations
show the suppression of the double ion
"knee" with a) circular polarization as well
as with b) linear polarization, but in a region
of the laser focus that exhibits an effective,
longitudinal ellipticity (4/15/08)

Images from Kelly Kluttz's modified Schlieren
calculations showing the effect of a knife-edge
filter (lower left) and a phase-spot filter (lower
right) on a phase-modified laser beam (11/12/07)
Jay Paquette's numerical simulations of
a stable, 2-d, classical helium atom (inset) &
double ionization in an intense laser field (7/10/07)
Ultrafast, 400nm Schlieren images
Is 20 femtoseconds overkill for imaging air flow??
(6/20/07)

What not to do to your laser:
damage from the pump beam on the Ti:S crystal
(6/11/07)

A sure sign the multi-pass amp is working better (5/31/07)
